JAMDANI

Hand made, hand spun & woven cotton is entirely. Natural cotton bolls are gathered, and these fluffy clumps are cleaned of dust and debris, also known as Ginning. This is done using a manual or sometimes a mechanised cotton boll opener machine that opens the fibre using air turbulence. This is a time-consuming process as the fibres have to be cleaned many times. The cleaned fibre is then spun into yarn on a wooden spinning wheel known as a charkha or spindle. The spinning process thins and lengthens the yarn and the twisting adds durability and strength. The yarn hand woven on a hand loom to create the fabric. This cloth is hand embellished with Jamdani motifs, while still on the loom.
